About Dr. Brown
Dr. Christina Brown was born and raised on the Bishop Paiute Reservation in California, where her lifelong love for horses began. From an early age, horses taught her invaluable lessons about responsibility, accountability, love and a deep appreciation for all of God’s creatures.
Pursuing her dream of becoming an Indian Health Service Family Medicine Physician Dr. Brown left home but never let go of her passion for horses. Throughout her medical career she has remained dedicated to giving back to her community, and she continues to do so through her children’s books. Dr. Brown is a strong advocate for early literacy and reading programs to help develop the foundation of learning for all children.
Dr. Brown believes that every horse should experience the love of a child, and every child should have the opportunity to give that love. Through her books, she aims to encourage families to share these meaningful experiences together.
Today, Abby and Taz, the Real-Life inspirations behind her stories, enjoy spending time with each other, their animal friends and their favorite humans on Dr. Brown’s ranch. She lives there with her four children, continuing to nurture her love for animals and storytelling while promoting the importance of early literacy.
Meet Abby and Taz
Two amazing “girl” horses. Abby (buckskin) and Taz (bay roan) are inseparable best friends living on Dr. Brown’s ranch, along with a delightful array of other farm animals. These two horses share a special bond and bring joy to everyone around them.
Abby loves playing in the pasture with the other horses, getting treats, and spending time with her human companions. Her favorite activities include munching on carrots, cool water bath, being brushed until her coat gleams, and napping in the warm sun.
Taz, on the other hand, has a unique personality that complements Abby’s. She is a bit more serious, enjoys crisp apples and sweet potatoes, and prefers resting in the cool shade. Taz loves exploring new places with her humans and always looks forwards to meeting new friends.
Despite their different preferences, Abby and Taz have one major thing in common: their love for meeting the children who enjoy their books. Their adventures not only inspire young readers but also create a magical connection between the stories and the real-life characters.
